Installation at an empty East Village storefront, New York (1999)

The installation, which takes place outside the fashion week calendar, marks the label’s first public presentation and leads to Barneys New York ordering the collection the following day. The soundtrack to the installation is a recording of simultaneous whispering about freedom by a group of Claudia’s girlfriends in their native languages, mixed with a Buffalo Daughter song excerpt. Influenced by the 1960s sci-fi film Children of the Damned, the collection maintains a timeless look that will become a Claudia Hill signature.
