7(2) Boutique Opening And Sculptural Presentation

New York, NY—February 11, 2000: Suspended from the loft ceiling of the new boutique 7, hung a family of acrobat troupe dolls. Sculpted by designer Claudia Hill, the large-scale sculptural pieces were created for the second of the twin series of installations named 7(1) and 7(2) that herald the opening of the new Orchard Street store. The lines Claudia Hill, The Number After 10, as well as the lines of the other participating designers will be carried in the boutique upon opening.

The other designers in the store opening included NYC based efforts including ORFI, Morteza Saifi, Benjamin Cho, and others, whose installations ranged from simple presentations of their lines, to a digital video projection. This group of multifaceted designers, including Claudia, has shown together not just on racks in the same boutique, but in several installation projects. This includes the Paper Project in the tents at Bryant Park held during New York’s 7th on Sixth Fashion Week, as well as Colorlab, an experimental presentation showcased as part of Fashion Lab at the DUMBO Arts Center in Brooklyn.

The collaborative effort that is opening the boutique is also responsible for Aire, a soon to be released experimental fashion/design/art magazine. Photographer Ariko Inaoka, whose collaboration with Claudia creates the line The Number After 10, is already a contributor to their premiere issue.
