My House is Your HouseBerlin meets Beijing: Claudia Hill – Yin Xiuzhen
|
|
Beijing artist Yin Xiuzhen is considered one of the most important contemporary artists in China. She is known for her space and location specific works. Her installations—in particular the series “Suitcase”—are traveling all over the world. From September 16 until October 30, selected works of Yin Xiuzhen are on display at the Claudia Hill Store Berlin (Auguststraße 26A). In her installation “Beijing Opera”, the artist recorded different street scenes of her hometown by means of photographs, sound and everyday objects, such as used seating accommodations. The city becomes a stage—between the public and the private. The work “Portable City: New York” features a miniature skyline of New York, installed in a suitcase and crafted from secondhand clothes, which the artist has collected during a stay there. Embedded pieces taken from city maps and recordings of street noises complement this installation, which will be shown in Berlin for the first time. Claudia Hill will celebrate the opening of ART FORUM BERLIN 2004 with a party in the honor of Yin Xiuzhen at her new store in Berlin-Mitte on September 15, 2004. She has allways seen close ties and important commonalities between fashion and art—from performance to fine art. The intensive exchange with Asian art and lifestyle is an important inspiration for her designs, e.g., for the way they are cut or are dyed in the traditional Japanese “Ai” technique. This fall, Claudia Hill has been invited by the Goethe-Institut to travel to Vietnam and participate in the “Performing Arts Festival”. Together with young fashion designers from Europe and Asia she will participate in a workshop and two fashion shows in Hanoi and Saigon. With the exhibition of Yin Xiuzhen’s installation, Claudia Hill continues her special showroom concept that at-tempts a convergence of fashion and art. Previously, at the opening of her Berlin store, she showed photographs of the young Japanese Photographer Ariko Inaoka. For further information and images, please contact:
