Claudia Hill is a Berlin-based artist whose practice explores the possibilities and art of connectivity through the method of weaving. Her large-scale tapestry sculptures are created on a 130-year-old loom and have evolved out of her work as a costume designer for choreographers such as William Forsythe and Meg Stuart or The Wooster Group ensemble. For Hill and those she collaborates with, the process of weaving serves as an empowering act of transformation and the weavings are in themselves embodied experiences of inter-connectedness between people and materials. Her work has been presented internationally at galleries and institutions such as Kate Werble Gallery (New York City), Shedhalle (Zurich), Efremidis Gallery (Berlin), Internationales Sommerfestival Kampnagel (Hamburg), Paris Internationale (Paris), mumok - Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig (Vienna), HAU Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin), or the DUMBO Arts Center (New York City). Her publication Social Fabric Earth Return is published by Bom Dia Books. She has received numerous grants including the National Performance Network Grant, Dis-Tanz-Solo Grant, Fonds Darstellende Künste Grant, and the Berlin Senate for Culture and Europe Research Grant. Hill currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
